Bulk Water Alliance

The Bulk Water Alliance (BWA) was a four-project program of works. The BWA program included the upgrade of 2 Dams and 2 new transfer pumps station/pipelines. The program had a total value of $750M.

ActewAGL, Abigroup, John Holland and GHD partnered to deliver the Bulk Water Alliance. Abigroup engaged Tallai Project Group to provide TOC management and TOC estimating of the Murrumbidgee to Googong Pipeline (M2G) project. The project TOC had stalled for over a year and Tallai ensured the TOC was completed in under 6 months.

The M2G project comprises the approval, design, easement acquisition, construction and commissioning of:

  • River intake structure and low lift pumping station in the Murrumbidgee River at or near Angle Crossing with a nominal pumping capacity of 100 ML/d;
  • High lift pumping station with a nominal pumping capacity of 100 ML/d;
  • Around 13 km of underground transfer pipelines between the low lift and high lift pumping stations and the Burra Creek discharge point, for “run-of-river” discharge into Googong Reservoir;
  • Associated power supply, control systems, pipeline controls, valves and related services to support the project;
  • Murrumbidgee water quality monitoring systems at or near Angle Crossing for abstraction control; and
  • Burra Creek aquatic ecology and stream geomorphology monitoring systems for ongoing impact assessment.

All infrastructure was capable of economic expansion to increase capacity to 150 ML/day capacity, and for pipeline extension through to Googong Reservoir.
