Continuous Improvement Process

Once the correct Governance structure is established, we focus on producing a high performing one-team culture based on Tallai Project Group's 'Continuous Improvement Process'.

Continuous improvement is achieved by following a simple process that enables teams to improve on a daily basis.

The 'Continuous Improvement Process' ensures that there is a constant exchange of information and two-way communication across the program office, project sites, and between the management hierarchy.

Teams

As the following illustrates, everyone from labourers to the program/project leadership will operate within a Continuous Improvement framework:

Planning

The whole process is underpinned by setting of milestones and planning to achieve the milestones by focusing on what is required to keep on track.

The Supervisors/Design Leads lead the delivery teams in their planning each week. They consider all of the possible constraints and opportunities likely in the week ahead.

Measure and Execute

The daily evaluation includes the labourers, supervisors, subcontractors, designers and engineers. We review what we did well, and what we didn’t do well, with the aim to constantly exceed our previous performance. The teams work together to identify their learnings with a view to continually improve. The frequency of the reviewing means that necessary action can be taken in a timely manner.

The reviews assess each day as either a B day (Business as Usual (BAU)), an A day (above BAU), or a C day (below BAU). Generally, we find that the biggest learnings come from ‘C’ days. ‘A’ days soon become BAU meaning that we continually improve naturally through this process.

Learn

The benefits of the Continuous Improvement process include:

  • The timeliness of response that it offers, and the current snapshot of performance
  • The capture and assessment of potential value propositions and innovations which can be tracked from inception through to realisation
  • The feedback it provides to the initiator, which helps to further motivate and engage personnel through wider recognition

The process further facilitates communication across the teams and management levels in both directions. It also maintains morale and encourages individuals to feel integrated and accountable for the daily and weekly performance of the team overall.
